2016 Community Foundation Grants

Basic Human Needs

  • Bourbon County Inter-Agency Coalition, Inc. assists families with rent & utilities to stay in their homes.
  • Bourbon County Senior Citizen’s, Inc. will be subsidizing the cost of transportation for low income individuals.
  • Catholic Charities, Inc. will provide one-time financial assistance to families with children at risk of eviction or cut-off of essential home utilities that will prevent imminent homelessness of the family.
  • CLASS LTD plans to assist residents of CK, CR, and LB counties with intellectual disabilities who have emergency food, shelter or clothing needs.
  • First United Methodist Church, Wesley House will provide coats to children this winter.
  • First United Methodist Church, Wesley House will assist 100 individuals to obtain proper identification.
  • Hannah’s Promise Pregnancy Life Center is to provide resources and education to parents of infants and toddlers.
  • Labette Center for Mental Health Services, Inc. will offer Mental Health First Aid training.
  • Labette County Emergency Assistance Center provides emergency basic human service needs to low-income individuals and families in financial crisis.
  • Mount Carmel Foundation through the Prescription Assistance Program assists patients in paying for medications.
  • Safe Haven Outreach Mission needs to purchase beds for homeless individuals.
  • Salvation Army will purchase a laptop and mobile hotspot to be used during home visits as part of the Pathway of Hope program.
  • Southeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging provides meals for senior citizens.
  • Shirley Yeager Animal Friends Foundation will utilize funds for the Healthy Pets, Healthy Families program.
  • Tri-Valley Developmental Services, Inc. has plans to purchase an Automatic External Defibrillator for one of its service centers.
  • Women Helping Women: A Fairy Godmother’s Fund provides one time grants per year to women in a time of need who are not eligible for services from any other agencies.

Youth Activities

  • Big Top Education Center Inc. will purchase the Playbook Curriculum.
  • Center Bethel Church provided school supplies and backpacks for Kindergarten students in school districts USD 506, 503 and St. Patrick’s in Parsons, KS.
  • Center for the Learning Tree Institute provides discounted funding to school districts for the Exploration Summer Program for at-risk students.
  • Cherokee County K-State Research & Extension outreach program Kids in the Kitchen cooking classes serve underserved children.
  • Children’s Advocacy Center, Inc. will purchase P.S. It’s My Body Personal Safety Curriculum and expand services with Labette County partners.
  • City of Pittsburg Parks & Recreation Dept. will purchase equipment for the Schlanger Park basketball court renovation.
  • Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas Inc. will work with low income rural families through Weight Matters to optimize children’s health.
  • Erie Community Foundation, Inc. plans to add accessible parking and sidewalks at the Erie Dinosaur Park.
  • Family Resource Center will use technology to integrate literacy and numeracy through the purchase of ipads.
  • Frontenac United Methodist Church will purchase needed equipment for the Kids After School Program and the Intergenerational Enrichment Program.
  • Horses of Hope Riding Center, Inc. will provide sponsorships to the Trail of Hope sensory trail for special needs students.
  • Interlocal 637 Community Based Instruction Program in Pittsburg Community Schools is establishing a Kids in the Kitchen teaching program.
  • Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters, Inc. will hold a series of events as a strategy to increase match retention in Crawford County.
  • Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters, Inc. will implement a series of match events in Labette County.
  • Kansas Kids @ Gear Up will provide attendance to ‘Road to Success’ workshops at PSU for low income students.
  • Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes will produce Project Based Learning Guides.
  • Miners Hall Museum will provide educational resources through the Traveling Trunk program.
  • Northeast Unified School District will purchase the Leader in Me character leadership curriculum.
  • Pittsburg Public Library will continue the Young Author/Illustrator Program to local elementary students.
  • Southeast Kansas Career & Technical Education Center of Crawford County will purchase permanent chairs for their educational environment.
  • Special Olympics Kansas (Pittsburg affiliate) will support the Exercise 4 Life Program which is an incentive based exercise program for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
  • Spring River Mental Health & Wellness, Inc. have plans to purchase equipment and materials to develop a sensory room for children.
  • USD 250 George Nettels Elementary will launch the Royals Scholastic Victory Program to promote STEM learning.
  • USD 250 Lakeside Elementary will develop play activities for the development of small and large motor skills.
  • Fort Scott Area Community Foundation – This foundation is an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas.  They received a grant to supplement their granting program providing more for youth oriented programs for the area they serve.
  • Girard Area Community Foundation – This foundation is an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas.  They received a grant to supplement their granting program providing more of youth oriented programs for the area they serve.

Arts/Culture Grant

  • Mother to Mother Ministry will provide a family educational field trip to Exploration Place in Wichita, KS.
  • USD 250 PHS Theatre will implement Horton Reads-Do You? reading literacy program.
