Nutrition and Physical Activity Project

In 2006, the Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas received a 3 year-$300,000  grant from the Kansas Health Foundation to improve nutrition and physical activity awareness in the southeast Kansas area. Local awareness efforts are combined with the state-wide public motivation campaign, “change something,” that was launched by KHF in September of 2006.  According to Marni Vliet, president & CEO of KHF, ”The ‘change something’ campaign serves as a reminder that opportunities  exist all around us to be more physically active and incorporate healthier eating habits.  Simple, daily changes add up to healthier lifestyles and improve the health outlook for Kansans.”  The Community Foundation is excited to be a part of this project. Please read over this newsletter to see how our we are progressing in are efforts!

To date, the CFSEK has granted over $90,000.00 in Bourbon, Cherokee, Crawford, and Labette Counties.  Further, the CFSEK has worked to established health and wellness committees in each county. These committees are organizing strategic plans to address the health and wellness needs of their citizens.  And, they are a clearinghouse for all information and resources related to nutrition and physical activity in their area.  For more information about these committees, click on the links below:
